On 23 April 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice announced settlements of 139 administrative claims totaling $138.7 million. The claims alleged that the FBI failed to adequately investigate Lawrence Nassar’s abuse. DOJ also referred to the Inspector General’s criticism of the FBI’s response.

On 3 April 2024, DOJ announced an agreement with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after its Title IX investigation. DOJ said the university failed to respond to reports concerning a former swimming and diving coach.

The agreement provided up to $4.14 million in relief and required changes to complaint handling, staffing, support and training. DOJ described the university as cooperating with its investigation. These are attributed agency findings and a civil settlement, rather than a criminal verdict.

On 14 February 2014, DOJ reported substantial evidence of gender bias in the Missoula County Attorney’s Office’s handling of sexual-assault cases. Its findings described disrespectful treatment of women reporting assaults and poor communication about case progress.

On 10 June 2014, DOJ announced a resolution agreement requiring changes to training, treatment of reporters, communication and case tracking. Both the findings and the subsequent agreement belong in the record.

On 9 May 2013, DOJ and the Department of Education announced agreements concerning the University of Montana’s handling of sexual-assault and harassment reports and the response of campus police. The agreements required changes to reporting procedures, training and responses to retaliation.
